Hiking the Tongariro Crossing to raise money for needy cats & kittens in the Bay of Plenty
Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty
I am walking the https://www.tongarirocrossing.org.nz/ at the end of April.
This is a big deal for me: I’m middle aged, overweight & unfit, so it is going to be a challenge!!
But one I am committed to do. It was on the big ‘50’ radar to do, but the pandemic got in the way.
So I’m not putting it off any longer and I am (really) looking forward to it.
Training started a few weeks ago so I am hopeful that I can be fit enough to kinda enjoy it and not just endure it.
So to that end I thought for inspiration and encouragement I would do it to help a charity close to my heart.
We adopted our beautiful Tessa from Wild Whiskers Tauranga in December 2019. At the end of last year we opened our home to some furry foster babies. It has been the most wonderful experience with great highs of our fosters adopted to wonderful forever homes, and some sad lows, which is an unfortunate reality of kitten rescue.
The wonderful people involved in WWT are very hard working and dedicated to their cause of education, trapping, de-sexing, fostering and re-homing cats and kittens. Due to human impacts, the need is great, and I am hoping to raise at least $20 per km (the track is 19.4km) & the highest point reached on the crossing is 1886m / 6187f.
If you could find a dollar or two to donate, I will be forever grateful, as will the needy cats and kittens of the Bay of Plenty.
I thank you from the bottom of my sore feet, and every dollar will spur me on to keep going.
Amazing! 2 May 2023
Wow, what a day! So lucky with blue sky, some clouds and very brisk -4(ish) winds up on the high parts. Started off easily enough (to lull me into a false sense of security), then comes the climb, the climb and a bit more climbing. The lakes were totally breathtaking (as was a lot of the hike, literally). Slow and steady with lots of ‘admiring the view’ stops. Down the scree slope was fun, then into the tussock then the bush, lots of different scenery to take in. I was so happy to see the 19km mark, only .4km to go.
Tongariro Crossing was stunning, hard work and fun. So glad to have done and enjoy it.
Thank you Johnston Whānau for all your support and encouragement.
And it is not too late to donate to a worthwhile cause!
I have had 20 cute little balls of fluff through the door this kitten season. It has been such a heart warming and worthwhile experience, and every $$ will help even more kittens next kitten season.
THANK YOU!
Thank you so much favourite oldest Niece! >^.^<
Thank you so much!! Your donation will go a long way to helping more cats and kittens. =^x^=
Thank you so much Hazel & Paul, your money will be put to good use by the charity and will spur me on in my times of doubt, discomfort and probably despair! (besides all that I really am looking forward to the challenge of doing the walk, it is haled as the best one day hike in NZ). >^x^<
Oh my goodness Cherise, thank you so much!! That will be able to help so many little lives, AMAZING!! =^x^=
