THE GREAT HIKOI - A long walk to better Mental Health!

Kia Ora koutou, Ko Leilani toku ingoa. Greetings to you all, my name is Leilani.

The Great South Road is 42.9km long. Starting from the corner if Great South Road and St Marks Road, EPSOM to Mill Road, Bombays. I will be walking this route at 6am on the 13th of August 2022 solo.

My goal is to raise $42,900 by the end of the 13th August 2022. But why, you ask?!

In Feb 2022 I contracted COVID19, 3months later I am still feeling the side effects and physical activity is harder than it was before, it has also impacted my mental health. So, I have decided that I am not going to feel sorry for myself anymore! In fact, I'm going to do the opposite.... I wondered how long would it take to walk the length of the great south road? Let's do it and see!

Now, how can I help others through this wero(challenge)?....

Having battled with Depression since 15years old and being diagnosed with anxiety with depression a few years after the birth of my son in 2017 it is extremely important to me to awhi(support or take care of) my own Mental health. Always. Along with supporting others with their Mental Health in any way that I can! So I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to not only challenge myself mentally and physically but to raise funds to support two amazing charities:

- I AM HOPE

- Mental Health Foundation

All funds raised will be equally shared and paid direct.
