Driving across the world to support mental health in Aotearoa!

$5,980 of $5,000 goal
Given by 81 generous donors in around 5 months

We are driving from London to Kazakhstan in a car that's falling to pieces, to raise money for mental health in New Zealand.

Nationwide

Unfortunately, suicide is one of the biggest issues that face us in New Zealand today. Whilst attitudes are slowly changing, still too many people are scared to speak up and get help. It is a sad truth that most people, including us, know somebody personally who has taken their own life.

We want to raise as much money as we can for 'Life Matters' by doing something that is sure to gather as much attention as possible. 6 young men from Dunedin (Liam, Finn, Matthew, Eric, Tim and Jack) are taking part in the Mongol Rally in August, a challenge that involves driving from London to the Kazakhstan border, a distance of over 15,000 km. Here's the twist: we are doing it in the cheapest, crappiest car we can find. The current contender is a 90s Nissan Micra; a one-litre, 3 speed car that's falling to pieces.

While we have no set route, the countries that we are going to attempt to drive through are as follows: The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Türkiye, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and finally, Kazakhstan.

Help us help those who need it the most. Please, only consider donating if you are in a position to do so and can afford to do so. Any donation is immensely appreciated, no matter the amount.

Latest update

Less than 30 days to go!  16 June 2025

Kia Ora all!

We wanted to say a massive, massive thank you to everyone who has donated money to our cause. It truly means so much to us, the team at Life Matters, and those who use their services.

We just wanted to give an update on where we are with our planning (if you can call it that!), and how our route is changing!

Car:

We have all but secured a vehicle for our journey. Some of you may have seen a sneak peak on the Otago Daily Times article, and we’re excited to show you all once we have it in our hands!

Route:

Given the current situation in Iran, we have decided it is no longer a route we will be able to risk. Currently, we are discussing the possibility of driving through Georgia and Azerbaijan, and sailing across the Caspian; more details to come!

Make sure to keep an eye out on our social media @onementalmission

Given the rapidly approaching start date, we will start sharing more and more content!

Thanks all :)

Liam, Finn, Tim, Jack, Eric, and Matthew.
