I'm raising money for NZ Land Search and Rescue by running the Queenstown Half Marathon in November, in tribute to Emma Langley.
Nationwide
New Zealand Land Search & Rescue is a volunteer organisation and I'm raising money for them in tribute to my friend Emma.
They were recently called to rescue Emma when she fell whilst climbing on Mt Ruapehū. Tragically she didn't make it, but a group of volunteers trekked for hours in terrible weather to get to her and her group, and help them off the mountain. I want to raise money for these amazing people, so they can continue to help people in New Zealand who find themselves in dire circumstances.
Emma loved tramping and being outdoors. Although she had only been in New Zealand for one year, she had already walked, swam and climbed her way around the country, but she still had so much more to do. She was a joyful and positive person who helped so many people and will be massively missed.
I'm running the Queenstown Half marathon in November as it has been on my things to do list for a while now. If this year has taught me anything, it's that we should do the things we want do now, and not wait. I'm not guaranteeing a time, just that I'll finish it, but it will motivate me a lot knowing it's helping raise money for LandSAR.
Thank you. Ngā mihi nui ki a koe.
I'm raising money for LandSAR so they can continue their amazing and essential work, helping people and saving lives.
One week later... 30 November 2020
It's been over a week now since we ran the Queenstown half marathon. It was a very emotional run, mostly because Emma was a constant in my thoughts but also because it was my 10th and in all likelihood my last, and I wasn't sure I was even going to be able to finish it the week before.
But on the day, the weather turned itself around, my running was good until 7km and then I fast walked the rest, finishing at 3hr 15mins. I managed to run the last 300m, sobbing as I crossed the line! As I say, it was emotional. But it was the most beautiful half marathon course and I would recommend to everyone.
So thank you all so much for supporting me and therefore guilting me into running the half ;-)
Thank you Dana. xx
