We are a registered charitable trust, whose vision and heartbeat is to connect, inspire and equip our West Auckland and wider community.

Auckland

Generation Ignite is a non profit organisation whose vision and heartbeat is to connect, inspire and equip our West Auckland and wider Auckland community. One of the initiatives that we run is the Generation Ignite Foodbank, which creates and distributes fresh food parcels to our community each week.

Established in 2016 our food parcels use produce, meat and other food products donated from incredible food rescue charities such as FairFood, Auckland City Mission and KiwiHarvest, along with donations from SuperValue Titirangi. These food parcels are distributed alongside a hearty meal, which is lovingly put together by our volunteers.

In February this year (before the Covid-19 pandemic), our team of volunteers distributed 182 food parcels, which fed 541 people. However, since week 1 of lockdown until this May, this number has increased to a total of 835 food parcels, feeding a minimum of 4,075 people!

How you can help!

With lockdown closing down many of our businesses, we received an increase supply of food, which allowed us to keep up with our new demand. However, as many of our businesses now get back to normal we're no longer able to receive this same supply and so to keep up with the long-term demand for support support, we're now needing to purchase food in bulk! These items are being purchased from Ingham's, Turners and Growers, Anchor and others, who all donated food to us during lockdown.

Lockdown also led to the much needed purchase of a 510L chest freezer, to house our increased food supply (in particular fresh meat, which was offered to us on the spot!). However, it didn't take us long to outgrow this freezer and so we hired a walk in freezer. To keep up with these new expenses and keep producing quality fresh parcels, we're hoping to purchase our very own walk in freezer and chiller!

Any donation we receive, big or small, is hugely received and appreciated - and will be used to purchase items for our food parcels and go towards the purchase of our own walk in freezer and chiller, so that we can continue to support out wider West Auckland Community the best that we can!
