Spirit of Adventure Trust

Empowering young people to reach their full potential through the challenge of the sea!

Nationwide

The Spirit of Adventure Trust has been transforming the lives of young people for over 50 years.

Heading out on more than 30 youth development voyages a year, over 1,400 14 – 19 year old’s each year have the opportunity to take part in this unique, rewarding experience.

Our signature 10-Day Voyages are for 16-19 year olds, where Rangatahi are given equal opportunity to learn and develop. 40 young people from all over New Zealand come together, without knowing other participants. They come with minimal possessions and leave their devices at the door. The tall ship and the unique and challenging environment of the ocean builds personal growth and development that is hard to replicate anywhere else.

Navigating your teenage years is challenging, and research highlights an alarming increase in mental health struggles among young people. Now, more than ever, they need a positive circuit breaker - a chance to rediscover who they are, their potential, and the adventures life holds for them. They need a moment to pause, disconnect from the pressures of the digital world, and truly connect with themselves and others. 10 days at sea on the Spirit, provides exactly that and so much more!

We rely on the generosity of individuals and organisations to help run these vital programmes and remove the barrier of cost for anyone who needs a helping hand to get onboard.
