Support people in crisis, in Christchurch and beyond.

Nationwide

We are deeply saddened by the terror attack in Christchurch on 15 March 2019. The impact of this attack is being widely felt across the country. We as a nation are hurting; in this difficult time, we welcome the positive leadership and solidarity being shown at all levels of our communities.

Your donation today helps support people in Christchurch and beyond. Red Cross was there helping on the ground directly after the tragedy occurred. Our Disaster Management teams are currently supporting the community in Christchurch following the tragedy, providing psychological support. We have trained volunteers all over the country who will be deployed to take over when people need a break, ensuring we can provide continuous support. Your donation will ensure that we are there for the long-term, helping where the need is greatest.

We also have our staff and volunteers around the country who work day-in day-out with Kiwis from refugee backgrounds. As you can imagine, these clients and their wider networks are very shaken by this event. The support from Red Cross staff and volunteers is now even more important than ever. Your donation will help us provide additional support to our migration programmes and ensure we can continue for what will be an extended recovery period.

Also, NZ Police have activated our Restoring Family Links service, which is available for registering yourself as safe or registering someone as missing. Go to bit.ly/redcross.rfl or call 0800 115 019. Both the webpage and the 0800 number are being monitored by NZ Police.

This was a dark day for New Zealand. It can also be the day we refuse to give in to, or accept, hate and discrimination in all its forms. New Zealand Red Cross is committed to improving the lives of vulnerable people by mobilising the power of humanity and enhancing community resilience, even, and especially, in times of conflict, crisis and disaster. We'll be there. It's what we do. Anywhere, any time.

Whilst we continue to grieve, we also continue with redoubled determination to build peaceful, diverse and strong communities wherever we are.

Kia kaha e te whānau

Let us grieve together, let us care for others together, let us rise together.
