Great Fathers is an eight-week course which has been developed for small groups of men of all ages to support them as parents.

We would like to raise money to host this programme from Greenstone Doors.

This is an inter-active programme which uses humour, drama and shared stories. The programme encourages men to reflect on their own experiences of fatherhood and to become, “the most positive male influence in their child’s life”. Through small-group discussion and activities, participants consider role modelling, social expectations, cultural settings and how they might develop positive and practical behaviours. By the end of the programme, participants will be better able to recognise and understand their own reactions to events and will know how to nurture healthy relationships with their children.

The two male facilitators will travel from the Manawatu to the Hutt Valley once a week to run the programme.The intention is that there will be two potential local males attending the first course in view of becoming facilitators for Great Fathers Programmes.

Greenstone Doors offers a number of support groups which help to build strong families and promote positive parenting. We see that our local men have the desire to parent well but dont have the skills to do so. Part of the Greenstone Doors vision is to nurture and build strong families within the Hutt Valley community. We will provide the venue, administration and accommodation for the facilitators.

We provide a 'safe place to talk' - all our services are free and include baby clothing and equipment, support groups, counselling.

Korowai House provides manaakitanga/respite for Mums needing somewhere to stay and receive maternal mental health support. Any of Greenstone doors services are also availble to those visiting Korowai House.
