Harness Heroes Fundraising Feb 2019

Harness Heroes is a nationwide charity for babies and children with Hip Dysplasia.

In the 4 and a half years we have been operating we have helped over 700 families with their Hip Dysplasia journey. This could be support through our private facebook page, private support from Jaydie, custom clothing or Resources such as car seats, spica tables, bean bags, cast coolers or prams that are available to loan free of charge.

In 2016 we published a Parent information and support guide that is in some hospitals or sent out to families upon diagnosis to help answer the many questions they may have during their journey.

In 2018 we published a "Heroes of Play" book which is an assortment of at home play ideas. This was originally developed with members in mind who could not attend their usual ECE setting due to their cast or brace etc but is now also available free to children in NZ who cannot attend ECE due to illness or disability and available for other teachers and families to buy for a small cost that covers a free copy for HH members or other children in need.

Everything we do is voluntary and free. We do not receive any funding currently and use February as a month to get our members on board with fundraising.

In 2019 our main areas of need are to cover printing costs of our books and to cover the cost of a website that will streamline and better manage the work that Jaydie & co need to do behind the scenes for the charity to operate.

When Madelyn was finally sent for a X-ray at nearly two years old they found her right hip fully dislocated and told me she had hip dysplasia. Even though I new there was something as her creases we uneven from birth and she walked with a limp it still came as a big scary shock about what was going to happen.

The doctor had no information for me and sent me speechless on my way. A friend on facebook joined me to harness Hero's who became a life saver for not only helping me understand what was happening, but how to deal with everything in every day life. Harness heros also provided much needed furniture such as a special table called a Spica table so Madelyn could still sit and play and enjoy life. This was fully free of cost, delivered to my house and picked up from my house. The effort and help harness Hero's do is amazing and any donation made can really help these children and families get through this hard scary time.

Jaydie and Harness Heroes have been a real life saver for me, my son and my family. The loan of a spica table was an absolute godsend and made our life immeasurably easier. He no longer fitted a high chair and he's always looked content at the table, as he can rock around. I honestly don't know what we'd have done without Harness Heroes and Jaydie. My eldest was in a pavlik, my second fortunately didn't need anything, and my third a spica and now a rhino. Here a pic of my son the first day home from hospital after the docs going on, and it is the first time he looked cheery as so chuffed with the lovingly crafted table and distracted from his discomfort from the spica. thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
