Harness Heroes provides support, clothing and resources to help families with their baby or child's journey with Hip Dysplasia.
Nationwide
I created Harness Heroes 5 months ago while our daughter was under going treatment for Hip Dysplasia after noticing a lack of supportive information, tips and resources during our journey.
"Hip dysplasia has a wide range of severity. In some children the ligaments around the hip joint are loose allowing the hip to subluxate. This is when the ball is no longer centered in the socket. Other times the ball is slightly or completely dislocated from the socket." (hipdysplasia.org)
At first Harness Heroes was just a support group where members could share their feelings, tips and journeys with parents in similar situations as them.
But a few weeks in I started to see a common need for special clothing and resources.
To help remedy this I sold raffle tickets to raise money so that I could purchase clothing, resources such as bean bags, spica tables, bumbo seats, cast coolers and other equipment to help families with
the Hip Dysplasia journey.
Harness Heroes is forever growing and currently has just under 80 members through out New Zealand with members even reaching as far as Australia and America.
Please make a donation and help us to continue to support families on the Hip Dysplasia journey by providing support, clothing and resources.
We also have a couple of projects currently in the pipelines these are:
- A Harness Heroes information flyer to be made and handed out at hospital appointments on diagnosis so that parents can walk away with helpful tips and information.
- A "Harness Heroes" Day where each little Hero will be provided with a home made cape to wear proudly on a specific day to raise awareness of Hip Dysplasia and the support group.
P.S. Check out our Heroes in the photos provided!
There is Amelia in a Pavlik Harness, Abby in a Brace, Max in a Pavlik Harness and Holly in a spica cast. Sophie who wears a Pavlik Harness is sitting in our custom bumbo and exersaucer arrangement, Michael has a photo collage of his time in a Pavlik Harness and a spica cast, Azariah-Rose in a spica cast and Sophia in a Pavlik Harness
I run the support page solely with support from my Husband, family, friends and page members.
I organise fundraising opportunities, purchase of equipment, special pants to be sent out, free lending of resources and provide a friendly ear!
