Nationwide
Harness Heroes is a nationwide official charity that supports families who have babies or children with Hip Dysplasia in NZ.
We help by providing support, resources and clothing that are required during the Hip Dysplasia journey.
Having Hip Dysplasia can mean being in a Pavlik Harness, Rhino brace, Spica cast or other equipment for anywhere from 6 weeks to treatment lasting over a year.
We almost have 200 members on our facebook page who have benefited from the support on offer, the use of equipment such as beanbags, spica tables and cast coolers. Or have received a pair of special pants or clothing piece that fit over their babies harness.
We rely solely on fundraising and donations and this sets the limit for just how much we can help these families, babies and children.
During February we ask for donations, and work together to arrange fundraisers.
We are grateful for any donations made and would really appreciate you sharing the link with your friends and family.
Our gallery will continue to grow with our Heroes check out, I'm not sure the photos will be in order but they are of:
- Aylee - In a Pavlik harness from 2 days old until 12 weeks old.
- Ryan from Taranaki who started in a Pavlik Harness at birth, went on to a spica cast from 6-9months then into a rhino brace from 9-12 months and is still in a rhino at nights.
- Azariah-Rose from the Wairarapa started in a Pavlik at 3 months, then a spica cast from 4 months-7 1/2 months to a rhino brace 24/7 then just for nights. Azariah-Rose then had a year off but has recently started wearing a rhino brace again for 6 months.

And Lachie who has been in a Pavlik Harness.
- Olivia has been in a Pavlik Harness since just before 5 months. An x-ray has shown she needs to wear it for another month and may need surgery and a spica cast if the next x-ray isn't good.
- Peyton is 8 months old she has been in a Spica cast for the last 8 weeks with 4 weeks left, it appears only one hip has corrected itself so she may have to start the journey all over again in 4 months.
