Help Wee Russell In His Fight
Otago
7 week old Russell survived a suspected hawk attack, found seriously injured high up in a paddock on rural farmland, he was not given much chance by the vets, dehydrated, badly injured and unable to stand or lift his head ,he was originally suffering from suspected neurological ,spinal damage and a nasty abscess on his back from a puncture wound. The next few days were touch and go, with fluids, painkillers, antibiotics, a cleaned up wound and food, he rallied, but it became apparent that one leg wasn't working and his breathing was very fast. The next vet visit proved pretty grim, xrays showed a problem with his spine and a herniated diaphram .Things were not looking good for him. shaping up to be very expensive and with a poor prognosis euthanasia was mooted, but I'd seen a side to this brave wee man each day I had him, he got just a tiny bit stronger, little improvements in mobility gave me hope he would continue to improve , the vet agreed to another few days to see if he could stand fully .. RUSSELL DID NOT DISSAPPOINT ... he's a fighter , and with continuing small improvements and the spirit of a lion, he has impressed them to stand and lift his head up on his own enough to see a future but he needs your help. Russell must have at least 2 surgeries, to fix the hernia and probably amputate the unresponsive leg if he is to be able to walk unhindered ,we hope the neuro issues and deafness improve with time .Please help Russell in his fight for a brighter future

Great news! 10 January 2023
Little Russell is showing what a brave wee man he is and improving in leaps and bounds.. literally and figuratively, he has had great progress with his learning to walk, and has adapted to standing, walking and even climbing with his 3 good legs, but on the negative side while he has mobility and control on his damaged leg, the foot is still impaired meaning while he is weightbearing, he isn't able to flex or move his foot correctly to allow for walking on it, further xrays showed no bone damage meaning it may be connected to his spine injury .. jury is out whether he will be able to keep the leg, but we are trying another round of antibiotics to eliminate any infection in the spine that bay be the issue, and he has a very attractive splint on that leg now to encourage the foot to straighten
thank you so much for supporting little Russell in his recovery :)
