Help us to remediate the rockfall hazard at Ohinetahi Reserve

Canterbury

Ohinetahi Reserve is a 150ha reserve above Governors Bay. It is owned and managed by the Summit Road Society. The vegetation is a mix of open grassland and regenerating native forest at various stages of maturity. A network of tracks allows access to the Reserve from the Summit Road and Governors Bay.

Due to seismic activity over April, we identified potential rockfall hazard on the Faulkner Bluffs in Ohinetahi Reserve. We commissioned a geotechnical report which has assessed the rockfall risk and identified the remediation required.

To keep the public safe, we have closed two tracks South Boundary and North Boundary tracks. These tracks cannot be re-opened until the rockfall risk has been mitigated.

It will cost up to $7000 to undertake the rock remediation. The Society is a small charity and is reliant on grants and donations for the bulk of our activities. We are asking the public and in particular regular users of Ohinetahi Reserve for their assistance with this unexpected cost. Every little bit helps!

*UPDATE* The Port Hills Ultra will match any donation from midday 17 June for the rest of the month, or until we reach the goal of $7,000.
