Help us to restore Ōhinetahi Reserve after the 2024 Port Hills fire
Christchurch, Canterbury
In February 2024, Ōhinetahi Reserve on the Port Hills was again struck by fire. 22 hectares of regenerating bush was burnt.
Ōhinetahi Reserve is owned and managed by the Summit Road Society, a grassroots charity dedicating to protecting and restoring the Port Hills.
The Summit Road Society is now fundraising to help with the costs of the recovery after the fire, including rock remediation, planting and track work. Total costs are expected to be over $30,000 for 2024 alone. Areas of Ōhinetahi Reserve are currently closed until this work can be undertaken. Please support us to restore Ōhinetahi Reserve.
The Summit Road Society (Inc.), formed in 1948, aims to further the vision of Harry Ell, by working to enhance, preserve and protect the nature, beauty and open character of the Port Hills for people to enjoy.
Money raised will be spent on the recovery after the fire including rock remediation, planting and maintenance, weed and pest control, track work and the replacement of signage. Any additional funds raised will be used to support Ōhinetahi Reserve.
