The Music Shop at Lotus Realm in Thames is a natural hub and gathering place of creative people and the community, and by developing 'The Back Room' space we are providing a much needed venue in the heart of historic Grahamstown for musicians, artists, writers, students, locals, visitors to share and collaborate in creative ways. Thanks to some extra-generous individual donations we were able to complete Part One of the project, the building, painting and decorating of the space.

Part 2 is your chance to help it be an Amazing gathering space! We need to fit it out with all the things needed for a really functional, cosy multi-use space. We are hoping it will be used for everything from music performances, recitals, singing, spoken word and poetry readings, theatrical and dance, art exhibitions, gatherings, workshops, games, book and album launches ...

About us

Lotus Realm is a fundraising initiative for the Sudarshanaloka Trust, a registered Buddhist Charity that administers The Sudarshanaloka Retreat Centre in the Tararu Valley near Thames, NZ. Lotus Realm provides ethical work opportunities in Thames, with a Retail Emporium Shop and Music Shop. We are a hub or meeting place for the creative energies of our community.

Use of funds

Funds raised will go towards 30 stackable chairs, a projector and screen, videorecording & lighting equipment, microphones and stands, music equipment for use in the space, any other essentials that will make the space user friendly.

We have been granted $1000 funding from the Thames Community Board Grants! 5 October 2018

Thanks TCDC! We will be using the $1000 funding towards a proper PA music system, which will benefit our upcoming concerts and workshops that are planned in the 'Back Room' creative community space...

However, we still need to raise some additional funds for a short-throw projector; more padded stacking chairs; lighting rig, and sundry music stands, leads, cables, etc. Every donation you make will bring us closer to providing a genuinely multi-use space.
