Today 70,000 people in NZ have dementia and this number is set to grow.
Otago
Alzheimers Otago works across Otago to support people living with dementia and their families and whanau to help them live well with Dementia.
This year we need to raise $30,000 so we can continue to support Otago families impacted by dementia.
4 out of 5 people in Otago know someone with dementia and, worldwide, someone is diagnosed with dementia every 4 seconds.
Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a group of symptoms that affects how well our brain works. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimers disease.
Alzheimers Otago strives to support those impacted by the condition by working directly with families to ensure people with dementia and their care-partners can access the right support at the right time. We currently directly support more than 300 families in the region to help them navigate the day-to-day challenges of living with Dementia.
We also provide meaningful activities and services for people living with dementia, especially in the early stages. These programmes support people with dementia to keep physically, socially and cognitively active and support them to continue to contribute to their community.
But rates of dementia are increasing and we need to do more and your donation, big or small, will mean the world to us.
