New Lives Animal Rescue is a Waikato based, not for profit, registered charity. Our aim is to provide animals with a new chance at life.
Waikato
New Lives Animal Rescue is a Charitable Trust established in 2014 (registration number CC51468). We are a not for profit charity who relies solely on donations and the generosity from members of the public.
New Lives Animal Rescue specialises in the rescuing and re-homing of dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, horses and other species where possible.
New Lives is based in the Waikato region, however, we often provide support to animals in other parts of the North Island and can potentially provide support New Zealand wide. We work with Pounds to rescue unwanted, neglected and unclaimed dogs, we also are asked to help with owned animals where the welfare of the animal(s) is at stake.
At New Lives Animal Rescue we are passionate about re-homing into forever families. We are also actively engaged in encouraging, supporting and educating the community on the importance of desexing dogs and cats, so that in the future there are less unwanted animals who end up homeless a result of over breeding.
New Lives Animal Rescue do not operate from a shelter, cattery or kennels. Instead we place all of the animals in our care into one of our dedicated and loving foster homes, where they will stay until they are adopted. The hectic, gloomy and cold kennel environment can be a daunting and depressing place for an animal to spend the long days and lonely nights, quickly impacting and deteriorating an animal’s happiness and health. When people view an animal in one of these environments the animal can often be withdrawn, unhappy or even unruly.
Living in a safe, happy foster home, our animals will quickly learn to relax, settle down and "be themselves" our fosterers can then observe the individual personalities of the animal and help us match the animal to a forever home that best suits the personality of the animal.
A huge benefit of having rescue animals in a home environment until they are adopted is that they become accustomed to living in a home environment, many of our dogs have come via the pound or from living outside, so being in a foster home they learn how to adjust to living inside a family home! They develop their "manners" and in some cases they even learn or begin to learn their toilet training!
Many of the animals that come into our care have suffered traumatic experiences in the past, this could be anything from abuse, neglect, illness or injury. The safety and TLC that a foster home offers our animals help them to begin the recovery process, allows us to treat any medical concerns and prepare the animal for re-homing.
The evolution of New Lives Animal Rescue:
2014 – Established as a Registered Charity – the “brainchild” of one VERY dedicated, caring and passionate individual.
2015 – A huge year – we opened our Op Shop on Grey Street, Hamilton East & launched our Horse Rescue Division at Equidays in October 2015. We feel very honoured and privileged to be named one of Equiday's 2015 Charity of the Year!
2016 – We have so many exciting projects in the pipeline including our Education Programme. We are in the process of creating an exciting new interactive education program aimed at pre-schools and schoolchildren aged 5-8 years old. We will be revealing the program in 2016 - so watch this space!
2017 - Saw New Lives open another Op Shop in Cambridge.
Running an animal rescue is a 24/7, 365 days of the year venture and it is also very costly. We ask for a donation adoption fee which helps us to recover some of the costs associated with rehoming an animal, but, with large vet bills, food, flea & worm treatments, microchipping and more – everything comes at a cost. We often have to do dentals on animals prior to rehoming and even eye removal when the kittens have come in with terrible flu and the eye has been so badly damaged, we would never put down a animal for needing a dental and the likes. We rely solely on donations so this means our outgoings far outweigh our incomings - and this puts a large financial strain on New Lives Animal Rescue. Every dollar donated helps us immensely – without your support we could not do what we do!

Established in 2014, New Lives Animal Rescue is a not for profit organisation that specializes in rescuing and re-homing dogs and puppies, but can also accommodate other species where possible.
New Lives is based in the Waikato region, however, will potentially provide support to animals New Zealand wide.
We work with Pounds to rescue unwanted, neglected and unclaimed dogs and will assist where possible when people find themselves needing to rehome their animals for genuine reasons.
If we are unable to assist, we will work with other organisations to achieve a positive outcome for the animal(s).
At New Lives Animal Rescue we are passionate about rehoming into forever families. We are also actively engaged in encouraging, supporting and educating the community on the importance of de-sexing dogs and cats, so that in the future there are less unwanted animals who end up in the pound as a result of over breeding.
