A Nationwide Effort to Save 100 Wild Kaimanawa Horses in 100 Days
The 100 Kaimanawa Wild Horses – 100 Day Project is a bold, time-sensitive mission to rescue, gentle, and rehome 100 Kaimanawa horses from the government muster. Without intervention, these wild horses face the risk of slaughter.
The initiate is led by Kaimanawa Legacy Foundation founding board member, Kelly Wilson, whose team is based in Taupō. Her property is fully equipped with the facilities, experience, and passion to give these horses a future—but we can’t do it without your help.
Together, we can save them.
Every $1000 raised allows an extra wild horse to be saved, which covers the horses stockpiling costs while waiting for training, as well as providing the owner with a KLF Initial Handling Subsidy if they need financial support.
What Donations Will Support
1. Feed & Care During Stockpiling
• Hay and balage: $80/week per horse
2. Training & Rehabilitation
• Travel and accomodation for volunteer trainers from NZ, Australia, and the USA, who are all trained in Kelly Wilson’s liberty horsemanship method, to further subsidise taming costs.
3. Subsidies for Owners
• Veterinary pool for ulcer treatment, injuries, or complications during stockpiling
4. Facility Maintenance
• Repairs to yards, fencing, and infrastructure due to wear from 100 wild horses
This is a rare, large-scale opportunity to rescue and rehabilitate 100 horses in just 100 days. Be part of something life-changing—for them, and for us all.
