Help towards the rebuild of Da1471 the last complete Phase 3 Da in New Zealand
Nationwide
Da1471 is the most recent mainline locomotive to join the Steam Incorporated fleet.
When it arrived at Steam Incorporated's Paekakariki Depot it was in a sad state of repair and we aim to bring it back to pristine condition.
-There has been a lot of work done on the bodywork of the short hood which involved removing the whole front section down to the frame and removing rust, rebuilding the bottom section of the hood, sandblasting and rebuild of the dynamic brake hood.
- The Long hood has been removed, repaired and is waiting refitting after the engine/generator overhaul has been completed.
This involves removing the power assembles for overhaul. Draining the sump oil and replacing it, overhaul of the injectors and timing equipment. Cleaning and repaint of the generator, check brush holders and replace the brushes. overhaul of the air compressor, purchase of a new oil cooler as it is missing and more.
-The bogies and brake gear require removal cleaning repairs and replacement of all nylock nuts.
-Cab requires a complete rebuild.
-Complete rewire of the locomotive.
-Purchase and install of a new Otari Rail V5 Tranzlog. Cost = $5,000
- Install a new Tait 8200 Radio. Cost = $1,200
-Purchase of batteries x8 =$12,000
-Purchase of Dynamic Brake grids x4 =$10,000
-Ditch light flashers units x2 =$1,600
These are just a few of the things needed to bring 1471 back to mainline standard and any contribution you make goes towards all of this.
