Our vaccination day on Sunday was a huge success, our only downfall was that we ran out of vaccines!
Waikato
To enable us to return to Hamilton to offer puppy booster shots, and to help those who missed out on Sunday, we need to raise some serious funds.
Canine parvovirus (commonly called parvo) is a highly contagious viral disease that can produce a life-threatening illness in puppies and dogs. Any person, animal or object that comes in contact with an infected dog’s faeces can transmit it.
To help protect your puppy or dog from contracting parvo we are offering $5 VANGUARD Plus 5 vaccines to community service card holders.
VANGUARD Plus 5 is an injectable vaccine for use in healthy dogs over 6 weeks of age as an aid in protection against canine distemper caused by canine distemper virus (CD), infectious canine hepatitis (ICH) caused by canine adenovirus type 1 (CAV-1), respiratory disease caused by adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2), canine parainfluenza caused by canine parainfluenza (CPI) virus infection & canine parvoviral enteritis caused by canine parvovirus (CPV).
Zoetis New Zealand Limited manufactures the vaccine.
Why did we choose this vaccine for our project? Because it offers long lasting protection – up to 3 years, once the initial course is complete.
Parvo isn’t the only disease that your dog is susceptible to. Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough are also prevalent in Auckland. This vaccine does not offer protection against these illnesses, but there are other vaccines, which do.
One parvovirus vaccine is certainly better than none, but for optimum coverage we would recommend you follow a schedule.
We are the founders of the vaccine programme.
HURRAH is an independent; Auckland based dog rescue charity run solely by volunteers.
Funds will be used to buy vaccines. All of our vets, nurses and laystaff volunteer their time and services to these events.
