Meet Tinkerbelle, she was being given away 'free to a good home' on Facebook.
Auckland
She was noted as having an issue with her hind legs, so rather than her owner re-home her as she was, we offered her a free vet check. Dr Jess was on call that day, after assessing Tinkerbelle she called us up and said this dog can't be re-homed as she is, she appears to have serious neurological deficits in her hind legs causing ataxia and weakness, she is also dragging her back legs and this is causing some trauma to her toes.
Dr Jess kindly agreed to take Tinkerbelle in while we investigated further.
Xrays show a significant deformity to her thoracic vertebrae, this is obviously causing pressure, or damage to her spinal cord.
We sent her xrays to Dr Pete Maguire in the States (Kira's neurosurgeon) and he has requested an MRI to help him diagnose.
In the meantime Tinkerbelle has moved into a permanent foster home with Briggle and Alfie. The boys would love it if their new sister could keep up with them at the beach so we are looking at getting her some wheels.
Thanks to a donation from Wil, we have the $250 deposit needed to hire her some wheels for the next few weeks (at a cost of $50 pw), but we'd really like to be able to own them.
Your donations will not only help us make her mobile, but help our neurosurgeon ascertain if her prognosis can be changed with surgery.
