Support Peanut's NZCR Journey: Raising funds for Life-Saving Meds, Treatments, and Diagnostics
Casebrook, Christchurch
Peanut, the 1.4kg Chihuahua, has had quite a journey!
Peanut came into care in a severely neglected state and has required a lot of funding, medical assistance, love, and care to get to where he is today.
Peanut is a happy, funny, loving, cuddly, feisty little dude. Although he is TINY, his personality is HUGE! It is hard to capture just how tiny and sassy Peanut is in person. His size doesn't hold him back! Peanut loves to meet people and is happy as long as he has someone to cuddle up to!
WHAT ARE HIS HEALTH ISSUES?
Since coming into our care, Peanut has had several consults with our vet to check in on his progress, he has regular consults and blood panels to ensure his overall health. While in care, Peanut has been de-sexed, had his dental, been vaccinated and micro-chipped. His main ongoing health issues include:
1. The Vets suspect that Peanut has a condition called hydrocephalus, due to his exaggerated apple dome and slightly protruding eyes. Peanut is also a very small, a 1.4kg Chihuahua, despite being 7 years old, he is the size of a puppy. On 03/10/2022 Peanut began Omeprazole liquid suspension to assist - but we have ceased doing so in favor of Pammol which seems to benefit him.
2. Heart: Peanut has is a grade 3-4 heart murmur. He came into care with sore, rotten teeth, possibly causing his heart failure. He takes: VetACE/Vetmedin ($60.48 for 82 days supply) and Cardisure/Fortekor medications ($77.00 for 100 days) from September. We added in the Lasix in December 2022.
New Zealand Chihuahua Rescue ("NZCR") is a registered Charitable Trust (CC55119) founded in 2017 after a need for a rescue dedicated specifically to the re-homing of Chihuahuas (and Chihuahua crosses) was identified.
Peanut's medications (for heart and brain), specialist vet food for Peanut, a referral to a specialist able to diagnose Peanut, diagnostics (bloods, ultrasound, CT or MRI), any operations or treatments recommended by his specialist and vet team.
