Partner with the ARO project to support young people in Papua New Guinea plant mangroves along degraded coastlines
International
Planting mangroves mitigates the global crisis of climate change and provides immediate community benefits. The ARO project is supporting youth in Gaire village to restore the mangrove ecosystem along their coastline. To achieve this, we need people to partner with us.
As mangroves grow they act as carbon sinks, offsetting some of the emissions that ARO project partners have unavoidably contributed to the climate crisis. At a local level, this action provides further benefits. As the seedlings grow they will restore this vital ecosystem, strengthening the land along the coastline and rivers, and providing economic and community benefits.
Mangrove-planting days provide an authentic place for conversations about environmental degradation and responsibility with the next generation of leaders. The day starts with travelling to areas with overcrowded mangroves. Here, seedlings are collected before the group then returns to Gaire, planting the seedlings in muddy areas that have become degraded.
In the first stage of this project we will sponsor 1000 mangrove seedlings.
