The Ola Fou Fiji team are busy with their response to the devastation caused by Cyclone Winston - They need our help!
International
Based on where the gaps are, Ola Fou Fiji are focusing on work with four communities. The person co-ordinating is named along the side the community.
· Maururu in Ba -Api (Diploma student)
· Vunato in Lautoka -Paul (intern) and Tema.
· Nakorovou in Ra -This is Amani’s village
· Nacekoro in Savusavu -Samu (intern) –this is on Vanua Levu Island
Please go to the Ola Fou Facebook page for updates and images.
Immediate Needs:
The immediate priority is getting food, clean water and materials for shelter out to these communities. The team already have some help with water purifiers an shelter materials.
They have costed out a two week package of non perishable food for a family (average size of 5) at NZ$100 (about AU$90). Between the four communities they have 178 families that they need to provide a food package for in the next few days.
They also have to get the food and shelter materials around to these communities, so I have suggested that they hire a car for the next two weeks and book space on a boat going out to Vanua Levu (total approx. cost NZ$ 5,000 –includes packaging and communication costs for the team).
As you can imagine, the cost of everything is going through the roof as more international groups arrive.
If you would like to contribute to either these immediate needs please pledge an amount. We will release money to the Fiji team each week based on how much has been given/pledged.
We will aim to update you next week with further needs.
Lets keep the team and the people they are serving in our prayers.
Through the ARO project we support environmental initiatives that creative positive outcomes for young people and communities in New Zealand and the Pacific
