Partner with the ARO project to support young people in PNG plant trees in erosion prone areas and coastline threatened by sea level rise.
International
Planting trees mitigates the global crisis of climate change and provides immediate community benefits. The ARO project is supporting youth in Gaire village by sponsoring trees and removing any financial barrier to this much-needed community, and global, response. To achieve this, we need people to partner with us.
As trees grow they act as carbon sinks, offsetting some of the emissions that ARO project partners have unavoidably contributed to the climate crisis.
But trees act as more than just carbon sinks. Hubert, an Ola Fou Alumni and youth worker, is working with local youth to plant trees which will provide two benefits: stabilising ground vulnerable to erosion, and preparing a defence from rising sea levels. Trees planted with the ARO project will have a legacy in supporting Gaire Village as the land, sea, and climate change.
Tree-planting days provide an authentic place for conversations about environmental degradation and responsibility with the next generation of leaders. As young people plant mango and tabebuia tree seedlings they are investing in their future, even as their community invests in them.
In the first stage of this project we will sponsor 100 trees.

Through the ARO project we support environmental initiatives that creative positive outcomes for young people and communities in New Zealand and the Pacific
Trees cost $4 NZD each.
We have up to 100 trees that can be planted in the first stage of this project. All ARO projects will have an independent verifier local to the area to monitor progress and outcomes.
