Diabetes community supporting the diabetes whānau affected by Cyclone Gabrielle.
Nationwide
The diabetes community in Aotearoa New Zealand is rallying together to get diabetes specific life-saving aid and support to our diabetes whānau in the Hawkes Bay.
Within Hawkes Bay, our local Hawkes Bay Youth Coordinator is managing the logistical process for distribution to those who require diabetes supplies including:
*Self-funded diabetes insulin pump consumables
*Self-funded CGM blood monitoring devices
*Self-funded Caresens items
*Hypo treatments which include glucose sachets, juice boxes and confectionery
Thanks to community action, Bret Lucas from Flight1Diabetic has volunteered time and resource to get the first relief package to Hawkes Bay.
Diabetes companies; NZMS, Mediray, Intermed and Pharmaco have all donated supplies. We, also added to these supplies by donating our Freestyle Libre stocks.
The stress and financial impact of the floods will be long-lasting. While immediate aid is critical, on-going support will be required.
This fund will be used to support those in Hawkes Bay living with diabetes who continue to require financial support for self-funded devices and other diabetes supplies.
Diabetes NZ represents & supports people with diabetes. Every person in New Zealand affected by, or at risk of diabetes has access to the information & support needed to manage their health & well-being.
*Diabetes insulin pumps
*CGM blood monitoring devices
