Help the Summit Road Society raise $3,000 to replace our broken Port Hills webcams on the Christchurch Gondola.
Christchurch, Canterbury
For years, our webcams perched high on the Christchurch Gondola have been a window to the Port Hills for thousands of people across Ōtautahi.
Every day, locals rely on these live feeds to check conditions before heading out for a walk, ride, or drive. Just as importantly, for those in our community unable to physically visit the hills due to mobility or health challenges, these webcams offer a vital, real-time connection to nature—aligning with the Summit Road Society’s belief in keeping the hills accessible to everyone.
We recently poured resources into repairing our aging equipment, but after years facing the harsh elements, the old cameras have finally reached the end of their life and failed completely. We can no longer, in good conscience, ask our generous single sponsor to keep funding endless repairs on out-of-date gear.
To keep this free, accessible resource alive for all of Christchurch, we need to invest in modern, reliable equipment. Your donation today will directly purchase replacement cameras and ensure ongoing maintenance, keeping the breathtaking views of the Port Hills open to everyone.
The Summit Road Society (Inc.), formed in 1948, aims to further the vision of Harry Ell, by working to enhance, preserve and protect the nature, beauty and open character of the Port Hills for people to enjoy.
Purchasing commercial-grade replacement cameras and weather-resistant cabling to handle the exposed environment.
Hiring a certified, Health & Safety-compliant contractor with high-access equipment to safely install and set up the cameras.
