The Dog Rescue Project

The Dog Rescue Project

We work with owners of dogs to provide the tools so they can become responsible dog owners, and rehome where necessary.

Auckland

The Dog Rescue Project are an Auckland dog rescue that work with owners of neglected and/or abused dogs to help improve their lives, and provide the tools so they can become responsible dog owners. We are a team of nationwide volunteers who educate and empower these owners to help improve their dogs living conditions.

We also rehabilitate and rehome any dogs relinquished into our care, along with working closely with many Council Animal Shelters across New Zealand.

We believe in helping ANY dog we can, no matter the size, breed or situation.

We are predominantly based in Auckland, however can help nationwide.

Our Missions

To advocate for and support dogs in our communities to achieve better health and wellbeing for the dogs through:

Empowering dog owners by providing them with the tools necessary to remove the need for dogs to be neglected and abused

Acting with integrity, and work alongside any other organisations needed, to provide a unified response to each case

Identifying opportunities to provide rehabilitative care and rehoming to any dogs that are relinquished so they can live a happy, fulfilling life, no matter their size or breed

Providing education and community initiatives centred on reducing the number of unwanted dogs and improving the health of the dogs who need it the most.

No one can do everything, but everyone can do something

Use of funds

These funds will be used for providing the dogs with desexing, vet care, food, and anything else that may be required.

Update on Our Name Change  31 August 2025

As many of you know, earlier this year we announced that Chained Dog Rehabilitation & Rehoming NZ would be changing our name to The Dog Rescue Project. This change reflects how our work has grown and evolved, while our mission remains the same — to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need, and to create long-term change through prevention and advocacy.

We are aware that some of you have noticed our Givealittle page still displays our previous name. We want to assure you this is not an oversight. The update is dependent on the Charities Commission completing their formal processes, and unfortunately, this step is outside of our control.

While the administrative side of the transition is still being finalised, we are already operating proudly as The Dog Rescue Project. Our work continues as always — partnering with the SPCA, local councils, vets, and communities to make a difference for dogs across New Zealand.

Thank you for your patience and ongoing support as we move through this final stage of the change. We look forward to the future as The Dog Rescue Project and to continuing this journey with you.
