Barnardos staff are invited to make a donation to help the staff of the Barnardos Kidstart Kaikoura ELC. Barnardos will match all donations.
Nationwide
Just after midnight on Monday 14th November, many New Zealanders were abruptly woken by what proved to be a devastating earthquake. While its impact was felt throughout much of the country, it was at its most powerful, and most destructive, in the regions of Kaikoura and Seddon.
The people living in these areas continue to be without power, reticulated water, have limited communication to the rest of NZ, and basic food items are also in short supply. For the people of Kaikoura, there is a long haul back to a new normality.
Barnardos has staff in Kaikoura and as an organisation we want to support them as much as we can, and often it’s the most practical support that is helpful. We can’t currently send items to them, but what we can do is contribute individually and as an organisation where we feel led and able.
To this end the Executive Leadership Team has made the decision to offer Barnardos whänau (staff and Board members) the opportunity to contribute to making a koha to our colleagues to both show our support for them at this time and to help meet any inevitable financial costs they will incur as a result of the quakes.
Barnardos will match all donations received up to the value of $6000. That means that if collectively Barnardos staff contributed $6000, Barnardos as an organisation would also contribute $6,000, bringing the total to $12,000, which would be distributed to the Kaikoura ELC staff.
For 60 years, we’ve been part of communities throughout the motu. Today, our mahi across social services, early learning services contributes to Barnardos’ vision of ‘an Aotearoa where every child shines bright’.
