Rusty needs your help!

Sweet Rusty has had a rough start as a kitten.

When he came to us 2 months ago, he was scared and he was a little fluey which we then noticed his breathing was very rapid, 120 breaths per minute to be exact which is 4 times that of a normal health cat.

Upon xrays we discovered he had pneumonia plus severe gingivitis on his gums! They were dark red and angry 😢

We started on medication for both however with pneumonia it can be bacterial, fungal or viral and its hard to know which when you don't know cause.

After trial of medications, antibiotics for fungal pneumonia started to work (not as common)..

2 months later his pneumonia has gone however his gums have not completely settled though have improved but he is also still teething so unsure if it would settle once he's finished that or if he would need full teeth extraction 🙀😢.

During this time he has learnt to enjoy pats and go into cattery which he absolutely loves and plays with his fosters mums kitten. 🥰

After some research we have discovered about feline juvenile gingivitis which may be treatable. Its severe inflammation followed by hyperplasia of tissue

Next step is for a dental xray and a scale and polish and the hyperplasia can be resected, which is booked in for Monday. Once that is done we will know if treatment plus regular teeth maintenance can help him overcome this.

This has been a very costly process, to date his medication and chest xray cost $300 plus costs of vaccination, desex and foster care. With next week's procedure we are now looking at further $200-300 in treatment costs 🙀
