Xena was shot by a bb gun and has pellet lodged near her spine, she is unable to walk properly and will need ongoing care.
Auckland
We have been working with Cat Coalition in a large desexing project in the Onehunga area.
One lady we have assisted a few times alerted us of two injured cats in her street.
After 2 weeks of urgently trying to trap one particular cat (as looked terribly injured) we finally had success.
Meet Xena, warrior princess, 4 month old female ginger and white kitten.
She has survived her short life barely being able to walk.. She was very dehydrated and not well, we were not 100% sure of her diagnosis at that point, initially thought of a couple of illnesses
But we wanted to give a fighting chance at a life and let her enjoy all the luxuries of a cats life.
She quickly learned to trust her foster mummy after being saved from the streets right before the cold snap!
XENA UPDATE 6/7/21 (the face of Cat Coalition's Onehunga Project)
Xena visited Lynfield vets today for a fuller assessment which included full body xray, full blood tests, which cost about $400.
What was discovered was a shock to both the vets and all of us...
Xena had been SHOT by a bb gun and pellet is still in her back, and may not currently able to be extracted!!! 😱💔 It has gone through the base of her spine and sitting beside her spine. This is what has caused the paralysis of her back legs - it's not a birth defect as we had thought. Heartbreaking - why would anyone want to harm an innocent baby animal in this barbaric way?
Whether Xena's level of disability can be managed to give her a good quality life is unknown at this point. The vets and her foster human will be regularly assessing her condition
Let's spread the word about the horror of some people deliberately shooting at an animal to kill, harm or just for the fun of it. This type of cruelty is not acceptable.
We want to give this brave wee girl the chance at a better life even if it costs to make up for what others of our kind have done to her

Xena update 🥺 9 October 2021
Poor wee xena has had so many ups and downs, she makes improvements then goes backwards.
In last two days I noticed she's getting picky with food and losing weight plus right eye was not dilating like other. Her belly also felt 'full'
I managed to get her to vet today and they suspected on examination that she may have a mass and will do an xray.
Unfortunately xray (attached) shows just that 💔🥺
At present she is home on iv fluids, kept warm and syringe fed along with alot of cuddles.
She may not make it another week if her overall quality of life doesn't improve or if can't do surgery we will have to say goodbye 💔💔
Xena our wee princess warrior from onehunga has been through so much but since end of June she received nothing but pampering and love. She has been the face of the Cat Coalition Onehunga desexing project after being shot with a bb gun causing severe injury to her spine (just one of 150 rescued /desexed) .
She has loved every day since being rescued and if we cannot save her we will treasure every moment we had with her...
Her expenses has been over $1000 so if you are able to help towards her vet bills we appreciate it.
She deserves nothing but the best for being treated like trash and shot when just a wee kitten
This is a huge reminder of what heartbreak Rescues deal with daily.. So many shot, so many neglected, abandoned, dumped, born on the street.
Please support Rescues as they are doing it tough financially and emotionally, especially more so since covid hit our country.
We thank you for your support and keep praying for Xena 🙏🥺❤️
