Firefighters tackle a wild 42km challenge to support Te Kiwi Māia! Donate now to back our courageous kiwis and their epic 2025 mission.

Bay of Plenty, Tauranga City

After two years of pride, pain, and probably a few pulled hammies… the Tauranga Firefighters Inter-Station Relations Challenge is BACK for 2025, and it’s shaping up to be the biggest one yet.

What started in 2023 as 15 minutes of “planning” (and a few beverage-fueled chats) has grown into a proud tradition, uniting firefighters to strengthen bonds, stay fit, and raise money for Te Kiwi Māia, a charity close to their hearts.

This year, Dunnie, Ashley, Derryn & Andrew are leading the charge once again. We’re stoked to launch this Givealittle page on their behalf. These legends, alongside their fellow firefighters, are going all-in to support the wellbeing of our defence force, first responders, and their whānau.

So what’s the 2025 challenge?

On Wednesday 29th October, they’re tackling a 42km marathon, by any means necessary. Running, biking, crawling, skateboarding, or just heroic levels of sweating… every kilometre supports those Te Kiwi Māia serves.

Even better? Crews from Hamilton, Kawerau, Rotorua, Gisborne and Taupō are back to crank up the chaos and camaraderie.

They’re asking for your help: mate, whānau, or generous stranger, every dollar goes straight to Te Kiwi Māia’s mission.

And if you’re local? Come cheer them on and join them for a cold one at the finish!

Let’s do this.

And so in begins..... Thursday antics.  5 October 2025

And so in begins..... Thursday antics. If you donate towards the teams give a little page (link below) you are in a chance to win to choose what they eat before their training run. YUCK! This week it's Ronnie Cairns.

Ronnie Cairns has clearly had experience in fueling champions, which is fortuitous as her name was selected randomly after her generous donation to Te Kiwi Māia for this weeks Friday 5km Preworkout experiment.

Smoothies aren’t just for the elderly and orally challenged, athletes can have them too. But what’s the mix that motivates the recipient to either push harder or force themselves back onto solid foods?? Ronnie knows.

Egg whites, peanut butter, ample spoonfuls of crushed garlic and fish sauce with excessive amounts of minted peas has been a close guarded family secret to stave off stray cats and door to door salesman at the Cairns household, and know it can claim to also instantly activate all the facial and stomach muscles of the ingesting human……..

If you are keen to trial out a concoction on our highly tuned athletes you are in luck.

And dont forget to follow us on socials to keep up on our antics and to see some of the things they are doing for our first responders and defence force personnel.

Thanks everyone for your support!
