We're seeking funds to help us develop better infrastructure to cope with the rising number of Tui that are coming in to care.
Nationwide
Here at Wellington Bird Rehabilitation Trust we've been caring for Tui for a long time, however in the last year the increase in Tui numbers have started to sky rocket and we're attempting for develop new processes and procedures to combat the influx of Tui coming into care.
With the current stability in the wild population of Tui, many funded organisations are turning their attention towards birds that are not doing as well as our local nectar drinkers. While this is a huge success for the Tui, it means that Wellington Bird Rehabilitation Trust is now intaking an exponentially larger amount of this particular bird with none of the financial support to cope with the increase.
Wellington Bird Rehabilitation Trust is completely unfunded and relies heavily on the support of private donors and the public.
We are a charity that takes in sick, injured and orphaned birds for care. We get no government or institutional funding and rely 100% on donations and volunteers to run our charity.
The money raised will be used to purchase two Absco aviaries from Bunnings Warehouse. The sheds cost $587 each and will be used as "soft release" enclosures for out Tui transitioning back into the wild.
