Camp Adair is flood-damaged and needs your help to get the facility back up and running again.
Auckland
Camp Adair, New Zealand’s largest and oldest residential outdoors facility, has suffered extensive damage from widespread flooding in the Hunua Ranges South of Auckland on Wednesday 8th March. The waist-deep flood was one of the worst in 100 years and caused severe damage to the campground's property and equipment. All camp attendees were safely evacuated with the help of emergency response services, volunteers and on-site staff.
While we are still assessing the full extent of the damage, YMCA's Camp Adair crew is now faced with the daunting task of cleaning up the site which is still susceptible to further flooding in the coming days. For now, the receding flood left the site with a thick deposit of silt across most areas. Accommodation and lodge areas including the majority of staff accommodation were inundated with water, power and wastewater systems were affected. Power has since been reinstated and major repairs will be required to the wastewater system, swingbridge and activity equipment to make the site operational again.
It’s going to be a long journey ahead to get the facility back up and running again. While the buildings and equipment are insured, there are excesses to pay and staff property isn't insured. Please lend a helping hand to Camp Adair and all those staff affected by making a donation on this page.
