15yr old Casey moved to Starship for a year to undergo treatment for osteosarcoma (bone cancer) – lets help make it a bit more fun for her.
Auckland
15 year old Casey Gilbert hasn't left home, family, friends and her school for fun. In fact she has left her hometown of New Plymouth to move to Starship Hospital for a year to undergo treatment. It's no fun being in hospital anyway but away from your friends and family makes it harder and boring! We'd like to be able to support Casey and her family by providing them with a hamper of fun teen stuff to while away the days, weeks and months ahead.
We are involved because Casey was part of YMCA Taranaki Raise up Crew in her hometown of New Plymouth; Raise up is a youth development programme that supports young people to develop their own skills while organising and delivering safe, fun alcohol, drug and smoke free events for local youth.
Casey can't attend Raise up here in Auckland even though we have a number of programmes around the city so we thought we would let her know that we are still here to support her and visit if we can.
At YMCA North we build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. We are here for our local neighbourhoods and deliver services which empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community.
WOW! $1000!! 14 April 2016
The support has been amazing - I'm sure I speak for Casey and her family when I say thank you so very much!
