A Fundraiser for Matthew Williams to get to Australia for the 2018 Rugby League Commonwealth Championships.
Auckland
A little over 1 year ago, Matthew was involved in a serious car accident where he as the middle back seat passenger was thrown head first from the car and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was in an induced coma for some time and again, Matthew's tenacity for life has pulled him through and he is almost back to his old self.
He has returned to his job at the YMCA Massey Leisure Centre, bringing his cheerful and positive smile to everyone.
At the latter end of 2017 Matthew joined Physical Disability Rugby League NZ (PDRL) and was one of our stars at the inaugural PDRL 9's hosted here in Auckland. Matthew has most recently been selected into the inaugural PDRL NZ squad to compete in the world's first tri series against Australia PDRL and the All Stars PDRL at the 2018 Rugby League Commonwealth Championships on the Gold Coast in February.
Each player needs $1000 to be able to attend and represent their country. So every dollar counts to help make Matthew's dream come true.
At YMCA North we build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. We are here for our local neighbourhoods and deliver services which empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community.
To help get Matthew to Australia which will see the PDRLNZ Kiwis compete internationally at a lead in event to the Commonwealth Games.
