Ianne has qualified to represent NZ at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He needs your support to get there and go for gold!
Auckland
We are less than two weeks away from the 2018 Commonwealth Games which will be held on the Gold Coast, Australia. Representing New Zealand in weightlifting is YMCA’s very own Ianne Guiñares. Ianne works as a Fitness Trainer and Personal Trainer with Lynfield Leisure and Youth Centre managed by YMCA.
The sport of weightlifting is still in its amateur status and, as such, receives minimal funding. Athletes who represent New Zealand at world weightlifting events receive partial funding from the governing body and sponsors. On top of trying to meet the minimum qualification criteria, athletes are also expected to pay for some of the expenses associated with the event.
After years of actively training and participating, Ianne made the cut to represent New Zealand at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. It was at the Glasgow games that Ianne proposed to his wife. One year later they tied the knot and welcomed their first son in May 2017.
Ianne is now embarking on his second Commonwealth Games where he will represent New Zealand in the 62kg class in Olympic weightlifting.
Ianne is not just lifting for himself, he is lifting for every Kiwi here at home and abroad.
Let’s all lift Ianne to glory!
Tournament schedule: Ianne competes on 5th April at 8.00pm NZT. You can watch Ianne’s event on TVNZ.
At YMCA North we build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. We are here for our local neighbourhoods and deliver services which empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community.
This is a plea to all Kiwi’s out there to help donate and help raise funds for Ianne. Your donation, however big or small, will definitely help lighten the weight that Ianne has to carry going into the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
