Barnardos Hornby Pasifika ELC is fundraising for a permanent indoor water system.
Christchurch, Canterbury
A thief in the night is leaving tamariki in cold water at Barnardos Hornby Pasifika Early Learning Centre.
In the last six months, the gas hot water system has been stolen four times, which has meant the centre has had to close due to its licensing requirement to provide hot water. This has meant parents and caregivers in Hornby have had to find alternative arrangements for the day. Security measures have been put in place to secure the hot water system but it doesn’t seem to concern the burglars who continue to remove the system, time after time.
We are now appealing to people for donations to help ensure our tamariki don’t miss out on a day of learning and play again.
The next best option to ensure the system doesn't leave our tamariki in cold waters again, is to bring it indoors. The estimated cost to do this is $15,000. Our insurance only covers replacing the unit itself but not the additional resources to relocate the unit.
Any local support to do this would be much appreciated.
For 60 years, we’ve been part of communities throughout the motu. Today, our mahi across social services, early learning services contributes to Barnardos’ vision of ‘an Aotearoa where every child shines bright’.
Any donations made will go towards Hornby centre’s hot water system.
