BRING THE BOYS HOME

To save 2 different groups of pet steers in dire circumstances

Nationwide

We learned that 3 of the dairy calves that we rescued, reared, and adopted out to a forever home nearly 2 years ago, had been sent to the saleyards... in total breach of our adoption agreement. The 3 boys were sold for eventual slaughter. We tracked them down, and thank goodness they’re still alive. The man who bought them didn’t do anything wrong, he didn’t know they were under a no-kill contract. He’s agreed to sell them back to us. So we now have to come up with $3000 plus GST plus transport. We’ve agreed, as we can’t let these handraised pets go to the slaughterhouse.

IN ADDITION… before we knew that "our babies" had been sold, we had already committed to saving a different 3 steers in Christchurch. We heard that Til The Cows Come Home Sanctuary needed to drastically downsize their number of cows due to heartbreaking circumstances. We wanted to help, so made arrangements to have 3 of the pet steers moved to the SPCA, where we’ll board them for 1 month. There they’ll have individual focused care to fully recover and get strong enough to be transported to a new home. We’ve committed to raise the funds for their boarding, vet care, tests, medicine, special feed, hay, supplements, and eventual transport to their new home.

About us

We provide a refuge for abandoned and abused animals, and either provide a permanent home or rehome. We raise orphaned native birds & rehabilitate injured native birds: We rescue battery hens, nurse them back to health and find lifelong caring homes.

Use of funds

To buy back the pet steers: provide transport, vet care, feed, hay, supplements, and temporary board while recovering. If excess raised, this will go 100% to continued rescues. We will be 100% transparent about every cent raised, and every cent spent.

THE BOYS ARE SAFE!!   15 July 2020

First and most importantly: Our beautiful boys Dash, Dancer and Buck are alive and well, and moving soon to their new forever home. Thanks to some incredible generosity we raised the funds to buy them back, they are now secure, and transport has been arranged for later this week. I am overjoyed and very very relieved.

In addition, because of your support, the other steers Teddy, Eddy and Freddy in Christchurch are also now ensured of their recovery programme and eventual movement to their new home. We are working on arranging transport from their current location to the SPCA in Hornby. We will board them there for about a month, and they’ll receive individual care including vet assessment & treatment, a recovery feeding programme, supplements, hay, etc. Freddy will also have some surgery. Once they are all strong and healthy, they will be transported to Auckland. All thanks to the wonderful people who donated to make this possible.

As outlined, if our target is exceeded any excess will go towards their care and other rescues.
