GOLDIE RESCUE FUND

$1,311 of $2,645 goal
Given by 33 generous donors in 6 weeks

Raising rescue funds for horribly neglected bearded dragon.

Nationwide

The Animal Sanctuary was made aware of a bearded dragon being sold on trade me, who was clearly very ill and suffering. So many people complained that the seller took it down… but we believed (correctly) that she wouldn’t be taken to a vet, and would continue to suffer. We negotiated and bought Goldie in order to rescue her. We took her straight to our vet, who recorded the terrible condition she was in: dehydrated and very thin, with dying limbs and rotting flesh due to septicaemia (blood poisoning) and loss of blood flow to her legs, and multiple open sores and abscesses on her belly. One leg had to be amputated immediately. We were hopeful that another leg could be saved, but the flesh was too far gone and it also had to be amputated soon after. Goldie has now had many emergency trips to the vet, and 4 surgeries. And yet, she’s doing very well! This wee dragon has incredible strength and spirit. In spite of losing 2 legs and a foot, Goldie is feeling better than when we rescued her. The pain is gone, so she’s feeling happier, eating really well, moving around at will, and has become very affectionate and responsive. Goldie is inspiring, and going from strength to strength. So far we’ve spent $2645 on her rescue, with more treatment to come. While we don’t regret it for one second, we would truly appreciate any donations to help with Goldie’s bills, so that we can continue to care for her special needs, and rescue other animals.
