Raising funds to rescue, desex, vaccinate & rehome 100 pet rabbits, to save them from euthanasia.

We’ve been asked to help rescue the last 100 gorgeous rabbits from an Auckland hoarder, otherwise they'll be euthanised. (We removed 170 previously) No more extensions, every last one will be uplifted by Council. Many are beautiful babies, all are lop crosses. Saving bunnies is expensive: all MUST be desexed (full price is males $180, females $240) PLUS vaccinations for calicivirus disease (approx. $60 each). If you can donate, we’d appreciate your help. The Animal Sanctuary is a registered charity, so your donation is tax claimable. Givealittle will provide you with a receipt.

We provide a refuge for abandoned and abused animals, and either provide a permanent home or rehome. We raise orphaned native birds & rehabilitate injured native birds: We rescue battery hens, nurse them back to health and find lifelong caring homes.

RABBIT RESCUE, DAY 1 COMPLETED 27 December 2021
We were told on Wednesday morning that the rabbits were being captured and removed from the property. We rushed to be there to save as many rabbits as we could. 48 rabbits were captured and removed. Some were in rough shape, but we took them all. (They didn't catch them all, and will be going back in the new year.) We took 18 adult females; 17 adult males; 10 juveniles; 3 babies. Now the bad news: ALL 18 ADULT FEMALES WERE PREGNANT!! Since Wednesday, 5 females have given birth. We could easily have between 68 - 100 babies. Yikes. And each will have to be fostered, desexed, vaccinated against the calicivirus. So we're feeling pretty overwhelmed, but determined to do our best. We appreciate the support of everyone who has donated, and would love it if you'd spread the word with your friends and family. Thank you.
