Support Rachael, Nigel & Wayne in racing The Mount Monster on December 11 & fundraise for Unicorn Foundation NZ (Neuroendocrine Cancer NZ).
We are a group of friends with a passion for the outdoors, all being involved in Surf Lifesaving & members of Maranui Surf Lifesaving Club.
Over a few summer beverages we decided to enter the Mount Monster, New Zealand’s most prestigious Surf Lifesaving event, held in Mount Maunganui. It involves a 12km surf ski, 6km knee board, 5km run, 1.5km swim with a 7m jump off Leisure Island.
The training began ….. Then in August our dear friend Chris passed after a long battle with neuroendocrine (NET) cancer. He loved all things outdoors, doing many endurance races & also being a past member of Maranui SLSC. His passion & drive to get out & enjoy life everyday was & is an inspiration to us. Always with a smile on his face.
To honour Chris & bring awareness to Neuroendocrine Tumours & the work The Unicorn Foundation do, we are raising funds. This will help towards research & patient support.

About us
Neuroendocrine Cancer NZ (formerly Unicorn Foundation NZ) is a registered charity provides support and information to patients, families and medical professionals involved in the treatment for Neuroendocrine Tumours (NET Cancer).
Use of funds
Funds raised will contribute towards supporting clinical research, lobbying for funding and further treatment options to become available to NZ neuroendocrine patients, NET nurse services and building and supporting the NET cancer community.

Team Unicorn are:
Wayne Wickens – 6km board paddle
Wayne has been part of SLS since he was 13yrs. He is a trained Lifeguard & has coached for many years.
Rachael Burke – 1.5km swim & jump
A trained Physio & Pilates instructor, plus trainee Lifeguard as well as coaching for many years.
Nigel Kirk – 12km ski & 5km run
A endurance racer through & through. Has achieved many races, some with Chris. Plus has involvement in SLS.
And thanks to Vanessa who has organised this fundraising page to be set up.
