Maria's Story

Maria's family resides in the picturesque town of Chernihiv Oblast. Despite the risks, on February 24, 2022, they decided to stay. In the initial days of the invasion, Maria's father, Oleg, joined the local defence forces, patrolling the town, assisting, and contributing to the defence efforts. Soon, he enlisted, underwent training, and was sent to the front. His brigade liberated the city of Izyum, but tragically, Oleg lost his life in Donetsk.

Although not Maria's biological father, Oleg loved her as his own. Maria has a two-year-old brother, Maxim, whom she eagerly anticipated. She strives to help her mother and joyfully looks after the youngest family member.

Maria is School Year 4, with her favourite subjects being English and drawing. She is talented and responsible, dreaming of having many dogs and cats, aspiring to become a veterinarian in the future.

Due to your generosity in the course of our initial fundraising https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/hamilton-for-children-of-ukraine, enough money was allocated – and is being paid in quarterly instalments - to support the child up to November 2024. The Hamilton City Council Koha amounts to 1/3 of the allocated funding.

This fundraising is to ensure the support during the next 12 months in 2024-2025 years.

To pay the bills, the funds will be passed to charity Children of Heroes in Ukraine whom we are working closely with.

All money you donate, less 6.3% of third parties' fees, are spent to support the child.
