Help Matt vie for a medal in the welding category at the WorldSkills International Competition in Kazan, Russia in 2019.
Auckland
From a young age I have been really interested in building and repairing anything mainly metal, so through high school I perused my interest and chose Metal Technology as my main focus. Also I did a welding night course at the local polytechnic, these have both set me on the exciting path I'm on now.
After gaining an apprenticeship with Page Macrae Engineering in my home town of Tauranga as a Mechanical Engineer I am nearing the end of my third year, where I have gained valuable experience in a great working environment.
I was given the opportunity to enter the WorldSkills New Zealand Welding competition recently in which I was very successful with my projects. I feel that representing New Zealand in Russia will be very inspiring for the engineering industry. So to those who are considering a career in Welding/ Engineering go for it, you will love it and learn so much.
So please help me get to Kazan in Russia and I will show the world what New Zealand welders can do.
