Help Hunter vie for a medal under the plumbing and heating skill category at the WorldSkills International Competition in Abu Dhabi.
Auckland
My name is Hunter Turner. I am 21 years old.
I live in Auckland with my granddad. I went to Selwyn College in Kohimarama until year 12 (2012), then went to MIT‘s school of Plumbing Gasfitting and Drainlaying for a year, three days a week and doing pluming work experience for the remaining two days of the week towards the end of the course.
I enjoy mountain biking and surfing.
November the 1st 2013 was when I started my apprenticeship in Plumbing and Gasfitting with a company called J&J Plumbing and Gasfitting. I have come a long way since then, with my boss Mark always increasing my amount of responsibilities, challenges, and perks.
Three years ago, I came second in the WorldSkills nationals, so I’m back! I won the nationals this time around (2016).
So why I want to go to the WorldSkills international competition in Abu Dhabi, is because I will be given the opportunity to represent New Zealand and the silver fern in a competitive event, which I think is pretty special -- so I’m not going to be giving it a half ass effort!
WorldSkills New Zealand is an independent, non-profit Charitable Trust founded in 1986, dedicated to encouraging young people to excel in vocational skills. This is achieved through exposure to competitions at a Regional, National and International level. The purpose of the organisation is to:

• Raise the self-confidence and self-esteem of the young participants.
• Have New Zealand recognised as one of the highest skilled nations in the world.
• Promote Skills Training as a first choice career to school leavers.
Funds raised will be used to cover Hunter's travel and accommodation to the WorldSkilsl International Competition in Abu Dhabi in October 2017
