Help Logan vie for a medal under the automotive technology skill category at the WorldSkills International Competition in Abu Dhabi.
Manawatu / Whanganui
My name is Logan Candy I am 21 years old. I grew up in Gisborne and went to Gisborne Boys’ High School. I come from a farming background. I enjoy playing sports and have a passion in motorsports, and have my own project track car.
After high school, I joined the NZ Army as an Automotive Technician as I have always enjoyed working with my hands and understanding how things work. I am currently in my final year of my Heavy Automotive apprenticeship.
I am based at 2nd Workshop Company, Linton Military Camp, Palmerston North. I work on a range of different vehicles that the army has, doing anything from minor maintenance to major repairs. Most recently, I have been working on our recovery vehicles.
Being involved with the WorldSkills Competitions has helped me develop my trade skills and give myself a lot more confidence in the skills that I have.
Having the opportunity to go to the Global Skills Challenge in Melbourne and the WorldSkills International Competition in Abu Dhabi in 2017 is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The vast amount of knowledge and experience that I will gain from these competitions are valuable to share and pass on.
I really want to go to Abu Dhabi to do my family and friends proud and represent the Army and New Zealand in such a big competition.
WorldSkills New Zealand is an independent, non-profit Charitable Trust founded in 1986, dedicated to encouraging young people to excel in vocational skills. This is achieved through exposure to competitions at a Regional, National and International level. The purpose of the organisation is to:
• Encourage, recognise and reward skill excellence.
• Raise the standards of skills training in New Zealand.
• Raise the self-confidence and self-esteem of the young participants.
• Have New Zealand recognised as one of the highest skilled nations in the world.
• Promote Skills Training as a first choice career to school leavers.
Funds raised will be used to cover Logan's travel and accommodation to the WorldSkills International Competition in Abu Dhabi in October 2017.
