Can you us help us desex Chicory so he can live safely at the sanctuary?
Manawatu-Wanganui, Horowhenua District
Recently we rescued Chicory, a young pig who was bored and lonely, confined for his protection in a small dark shed as it was unsafe for him to stumble around the steep property on which he was born. Chicory has been almost completely blind from birth and is only able to see some movement and shadows.
We urgently need to neuter Chicory so that he can live freely and safely at the sanctuary with us and the other pigs. This requires veterinary surgery, as he is nearly a year old, and will cost approximately $400. He also needs a thorough health check. We have had extra costs and reduced income this winter, so we are seeking community help with this additional bill.
Chicory is a Canterbury Blue rare breed pig. He relishes human attention and is settling in well, nosing around his paddock and growing steadily more confident. Currently he is staying in a small quarantine paddock until he has been desexed, after which we will buddy him up with another gentle pig. It is wonderful to see him play and explore!
Please help us desex Chicory by donating or sharing this page - any contribution at all is a great help towards giving him the best life possible!
The Black Sheep supports animal rights and animal protection, providing a safe haven for about 100 previously abused, injured and neglected animals (pigs, goats, sheep, roosters, cows, horses, ducks, geese, rabbits, turkeys and more) near Ōtaki Forks.
All funds raised will go towards the costs associated with desexing Chicory.
Thank you from Chicory for your generosity! 14 August 2022
We're feeling very humbled by your kindness - we've raised the required funds for Chicory's desexing already, and even some extra which we will use towards a thorough veterinary health check to ensure Chicory's ongoing wellbeing. Thank you again :-)
