Creature comforts – building a better sanctuary for Brian and Bessie

$20,073 of $20,000 goal
Given by 79 generous donors in 10 weeks

The Black Sheep is fundraising to buy winter feed, and to complete animal care building projects – from a duckling run to a pig vet chute.

Otaki, Wellington

The Black Sheep animals love their cosy homes! Brian and Bessie are pig companions who play and wallow together in their paddock and snuggle at night. Rabbits such as Maggie and Bunnykin live in bonded pairs, and each goat has a special home in the goat paddock.

Some of our houses and other structures need replacing, however. The sanctuary has expanded since it was founded 14 years ago, and it's time to repair and extend our original infrastructure. With rising costs, our op-shops are no longer able to fund essential projects. Reluctantly, we have to reach out to keep our residents living in comfort.

We are raising $20,000 for feed supplies, a run to protect rescued ducklings from predators, a pig chute for vet visits and vaccinations, a dedicated vet shed, permanent shelters for the sheep paddocks to replace our perishing shade sails, and another hay shed. Where possible we'll use recycled materials. We’re used to making a little go as far as a pig can chase a toy ball, and every cent counts.

Can you spread the word by sharing this fundraiser through your networks? A kind supporter has agreed to match donations until the first $10,000 is reached, so donate today to double your gift! Gifts in kind are very welcome.

If you generously fund an entire structure, we’ll name it for you – so you’ll always be part of the sanctuary.

Thank you for ensuring that Bessie and Brian can enjoy their creature comforts!
