This morning, completely by chance, Lonely Miaow rescued our first dog. Now we need your help to give her hope for a future!
Auckland
This morning our marketing manager and treasurer were cruising along the waterfront in Auckland, planning a quiet weekend after many weeks of caring for kittens, when they witnessed a tiny wee puppy go under a car and come out in very bad shape.
The stunned wee pup was rushed to the wonderful team at Strand Vets where they were able to get her stabilised and her care has been transferred to the after hours vets to keep her stabile, manage her pain and start to piece together a treatment plan. We have named her Uno - the first Lonely Miaow dog - and the vets believe she is a 6 month old chihuahua puppy. She has multiple pelvic fractures and her tail has separated from her spine. She has feeling in her back legs, and the early signs are that she may have some nerve function around her bladder and bowel, but it is a waiting game.
Unfortunately the owner was unable to meet any of the treatment costs, and has formally surrendered the dog. At Lonely Miaow our mandate is rescuing stray and abandoned cats, but we also pride ourselves on doing what we can, when we can to ease any animal’s suffering. It was a coincidence that two of our team were there when this accident happened, but we have intervened with the intention of doing everything in our power to give this sweet wee dog the second chance she deserves.
So far today we’ve spent $1500 keeping her alive - a rough estimate is that we’ll need another $3500 to give this wee one every opportunity. It’s a lot of money. But we think it’s worth it to give Uno some hope. Can you help us?
Rescuing stray and abandoned cats and kittens around the greater Auckland area, caring for them in foster homes, and finding their forever homes.
Funds will be used to cover the cost of Uno’s surgical and medical bills, rehabilitation, medication and food. Any surplus funds will be deposited into the Lonely Miaow general account and contribute towards our vet bills.
Some very sad news... 28 January 2018
It is with great sadness that we have to report that Uno passed away this morning. She was doing so well last night, moving around to get more comfortable, her vitals were looking good and all the signs suggested that the massive shock was under control. But at 2:30am her heart suddenly stopped, and she wasn't able to be revived.
Our hearts are overflowing with the generosity you have shown Uno over the past 12 hours. We have done everything in our power to give this wee girl a chance, but sadly it wasn't to be. The team at The Strand Vet and Manukau After Hours Veterinary Clinic worked tirelessly with a huge amount of compassion and care – there was nothing more that could have been done to help. Thank you so much for helping us to help her. ❤️🙏
Rest in Peace Little Uno.
