Tiny but mighty Gidget

Meet Gidget.

Gidget was found dumped on a farm at only 4 weeks old. At this age, kittens are completely unable to fend for themselves and rely on mum to take care of them. When we rescued Gidget and her brother, it appeared that they had been there for a few days with no mum in sight or human to care for them. They were incredibly malnourished and on deaths door.

After weeks of syringe feeding and intensive treatments, Gidget’s progress suddenly started to go backwards - she became incredibly fussy and lost huge amounts of weight. At her smallest, Gidget was only 335gm when she should have been close to 1kg!

We didn’t know what was wrong with her and despite our best efforts, treating her for all common ailments, worms and viruses, she was getting worse. We had to risk putting her under so that we could get blood tests done and also had a fecal panel.

She’s tested positive for coccidia, giardia and worms, even though we treated her for all of these!

Now that we know what’s wrong, Gidget is in the care of a vet nurse, receiving around the clock intensive feedings and medications to give her the best shot at surviving.

Until the weekend, we didn’t think she was going to make it and she still has a long road ahead, but she’s continuing to beat the odds and we’re hopeful she’ll keep fighting.

But all the blood tests, medications and consults are costing us around $1000. That doesn’t include the basics of caring for her like food, litter and a warm bed. We need your help to cover these costs so that we can keep give Gidget the life she deserves.
